Husk Bennett & Davy Mahon in Conversation

Contemporary Artists Husk Bennett and Davy Mahon both artists work in the realm of the contemporary; idiosyncrasies, pop-culture and the quotidian. Taking into account the theme of the festival - Myths, this discussion will focus on urban myths and how half-truths play a role in each artist's practise with an emphasis on the trials and tribulations of being an artist, failure, Larne and Cats (2019).
As part of NIMHAF 2023 they will discuss their practice in The Shop.

Davy Mahon is the current project co-ordinator at PS2, Belfast as well as a multi-disciplinary artist. Davy most recently had a solo show in Belfast School of Art 'Dungeon' based on the project Dungeon, which runs in distinct phases and marries the literal and metaphorical underground through site specific works and curation. The locations so far have remained a secret. Davy has also contributed work to Array collective Turner Prize winning Síbín (Coventry), works for the Amabie Project (Belfast/Japan), and provides content and organisational support for the online collective She Sells Sanctuary raising money for domestic violence charities. Davy is an ex-director of Catalyst Arts as well as Platform Arts.

Husk Bennett is a visual artist based in Belfast. Husk studied in Manchester School of Art from 2017 - 2020. He has exhibited work internationally, most recently with PS2, Belfast and The Courthouse Gallery in Ennistymon, Co. Clare. Husk's practice explores narratives of absurdity, queerness and humour within art. Husk's work is multi-disciplinary, centred mainly within drawing and performance practices, alongside public intervention and collaborative engagements. Husk is a current co-director of Catalyst Arts.
